2012: A Review

When I started to think about what had been accomplished in 2012, I initially thought overall it hadn't been very exciting. 2011 will always be a gigantic year in my life with us getting married and then making that initial move over here. It's kind of hard to overshadow the year you got married. But the more I reflected, the more I realized we did a lot. There were two trips to Tokyo. We went to Korea and Malaysia. We crossed Shikoku and Kyushu off our travel list. There have been like 6 trips to Kyoto and quite a few other cities in Kansai. In November, we went to DisneyLand for the Christmas display. I had a girls only trip to Korea. We've had people stay with us five different times, including my family (we love people staying with us, so please come). We celebrated our first year of marriage. I passed the JLPT 5 after living here only a year. I met some incredible people that live here, including a few that I'm still convinced are too cool to talk to me.  We added another cat to our family (sorry Josh). I helped plan a training seminar for Osaka JETs. I turned 25 and Josh turned 26.

How did I ever think 2012 was boring? It was the first complete year we spent in Japan. It was the year this place went from being a slight novelty to a part of our hearts. There were some days I really disliked living here, but I never felt myself ready to leave. If 2012 was a year of learning curves and stabilizing ourselves in this country, I hope 2013 can bring new experiences and new insights into our temporary home.
And since I actually havent said it yet to you all 明けましておめでとうござます!今年もよろしくお願いします!Happy New Year!

  1. Okay, so I'm kinda addicted to your blog! You and your husband are adorable! lol! I love reading about people's experiences in other countries, and how they adapt to new environments. I'm so glad that you have a lot of good things to say about living in Japan, even though it's not all roses each and every day. I don't understand the people who complain about everything and completely ignore the good. Just negative. Eventually it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Plus, crappy things will happen no matter where in the world you live. It's a part of life. Just embrace the good and keep it moving. *shakes fists, ends mini rant*

With that being said, it looks like you had an amazing 2012, and I hope that your 2013 is even better! :)

  3. It sounds like a fantastic year. I've really enjoyed reading about your experiences and what you have to say the past few months. You make life there feel both exciting and exotic, as well as quiet and ordinary (and I mean that in the best, most cozy kind of way.) Also, I like your pictures. I'm a sucker for pretty pictures.

    1. Thanks! Glad you're reading it :) I think that sums up my life here, "exciting and exotic, as well as quiet and ordinary"
I'm glad you like the pictures, but I'm not happy with how blogger is washing them out.
