Our Best Winter Purchase

   During our first winter here, we figured out quite of a bit of do's and dont's in keeping your house and yourself warm. This winter has been even colder than the last, but we've managed to keep ourselves much more comfortable than last year. There were still things that were unpleasantly cold though. So we just gave in and bought something the rest of the world thinks is standard in every Japanese home. We bought a washlet. You may be laughing, but going to the bathroom at a freezing 3 a.m. isn't quite the eye popping experience it once was. You can actually just buy the toilet seats that come with all the crazy features fairly inexpensively. You can see our pretty basic model here. Unfortunately it doesn't have built in video games or play classical music while automatically flushing, but all I care about is that seat warmer.

   Fun fact about me. The word bathroom and toilet make me uncomfortable. I don't like saying them and I'm actually very creeped out by typing them for the internet to read. This is just such a "only in Japan" sort of thing to own I thought I'd share. And if you're family in the U.S., well now you know what you're getting for Christmas next year.
